The picture, below, describes the location of electrical components and connectors found in the engine compartment of a Suzuki Sidekick Sport equipped with a 1.8 L engine. Of particular interest is the Diagnostic Connector (item 12) which is used to set timing. This jumper basically tells the ECU to not interact with timing advance changes during a tune-up. At the end of the timing setup process, the jumper must be removed.
I cannot verify the following information but I assume that it is correct:
To set the timing, place a jumper between pins 4 and 5 (the black and blue-red wires) on the dignostic connector and set timing to 4 to 6 degrees at 750-850 RPMs which should be the correct idle RPM.
